I use a garmin i3 streetpilot.It can run on 2 AA batteries or run off a cigar lighter.It lasts about 6 hours on two batteries and is dead easy to swop between vehicles.

My tomtom one europe does a good enough job, you can take it from car to car and if you really need to i suppose you could carry it round with you. they are about £230
