Installing a pot belly stove in a single storey log cabin?
i have a pot belley stove that i want to install in my log cabin what i dont understand is the hole through the roof which is made of wood, so my 7inch selkirk double skin goes through the hole which has to be at least a 11inch circle as there has to be a min of gap between the pipe and anything combustible ie the wooden roof so do i have to be looking at flashing on the roof from the inside or is there anything i put over the gap inside ?

Chinking a log cabin?
I made my living room and dining room look like a log cabin. I used cedar boards with a gap.I put beams in the ceiling, even used drift wood to make my railing coming down the steps.Turned out better than I expected. Now I need to chink between the cedar boards to finish itoff. Anyone know of a inexpensive solution. I did watch another guy use lime, sand and cement. Im looking for inexpensive solution that will last?

How do I make a flat wall against the interior of a log cabin w/o cutting into logs or making mouse channels?
This is a hard one. I'm trying to add one sheet rocked wall to the interior of a log cabin. The log cabin is of course made of logs and stacked logs are not a flat surface. So if I put a flat wall against it, on the ends there will be holes between where each log contacts the new flat wall. Each of these holes is a potential place that mice can enter and make their new home. To make things more difficult, the logs have wooden chinking aka molding between each log to help insulate so cutting a piece of wood to fit would be a nightmare. They are also very heavily oiled. I don't have permission from the owner to cut into the logs so it would have to be something that conforms to the surface.I was thinking of using drywall compound with wire mesh or screen. Another option would be mortar or QUIKRETE. Would these stick to oily wood? Or does anyone have any other ideas? Not too expensive is important too since there is a lot of space to fill.Thanks.

Help with decorating a log cabin?
My partner and I are planning on moving into a mini log cabin around 20ft by 10 for a year at the bottom of his parents garden until our own house is finished. Can anyone give me any ideas on how to decorate it to make it a bit more homely? Any pictures, colour schemes or ideas would be welcomed.We'd only use the cabin to sleep in and maybe chill out and watch some tv rather than live in it completely, so the furniture at the moment would probably only include a bed and couch.

How can I build My Own Log Cabin Without Paying Loads Of Money?
Hi, I want to build a log cabin. Not for a home, but for a place to stay and go for the day, I don't want to spend thousands of pounds for a home with full heating and electricity. I just want a Log Cabin with a waterproof roof. I know how to build the cabin and me and my crew i hate saying crew, we're not professionals, or gangsters, but it's our group but we have a lot of experience. We are going to be building this cabin after march. I want to know if there is a way I can get all the wood I need, including the siding, flooring, beams etc. Without buying into a massively expensive pack. I don't want specially treated wood, or wood that has been cut and shaped to fit together. We can do all that. We have spent years in the past making hovels out of the wood we found and cut down, but for a cabin we will need straight pine, and there is no straight pine in the area that we are building it and it would take a long time to bring it up plus it's illegal to cut it down where it grows so we're not doing that . Can anyone help me? Is there a place that I can buy unaltered, fully straight logs? Remember I do not need it to be finished or cut to fit together, we can take care of that and any gaps. We are very efficient at this kind of thing and we can make out own glue using plants and our own binding material. All we need is the wood. It has to be pine, and it can't be altered. I want it to be as cheap as possible.Help is appreciated and you will receive 10 points I would do so much more if I could .THANK YOU I've already worked out building style, shape, and sizes and measurements, I want it to be 20 feet by 10 feet, with a roof and another small level, that is accessed by ladders. The walls will be 8 feet high and the gable another 4, the second level is just going to be a platform at the upper side. We already know how to do it all. But we don't have all that money to spend on it. Remember we are used to making things out of what we find. But we want something better this time.
