Large garden office - whats best, wooden or composite/modular construction?
I'm looking at putting in a large garden office, probably 4m x 6m or 4m x 7m and have pretty much narrowed it down to two types...Ones a wooden one like this weatherstrong.co.uk newengland.asp big pic weatherstrong.co.uk images newengland retreat main.jpg The other is an insulated type like this insulatedbuildings.co.uk eco ranges.shtml the wooden effect one, but much bigger Firstly, has anyone had any experience with products from these suppliers? One of my main concerns is security, i run a mail order business from home and this will be my office, stockroom and packing room so it needs to be secure. The wooden one can have double glazed wooden windows and a wooden door but the modular one has upvc dg windows and multipoint locking doors, and i think would be more secure, but not sure? The wooden one will give some mezanine storage area due to its height and the insulated one is better insulated and sound proofed but just on one level.Has anyone got any experience of buildings like this, in comparison to each other?Anyone confirm if the modular one is going to be more secure?I have some extremely heavy metal cabinets to go in there, the wooden building people say they can put extra supports in under the floor, but the modular people say no problem, as they have customers using same types for freezer and cold room storage.Prices are roughly similar although wooden slightly more.Sorry for squeezing more than one question in here lol All comments welcomeCheersJimprices for similar sizes are aroundabout the same for either the wood or the modular
How can I build an out-house/pool-house/garden office?
I've in a first floor apartment with a massive patio. I'm thinking of building another room on the patio I already have two pre constructed ones out there . The pre constructed ones are very expensive and so I wanted to by building one myself. I'm looking at home welding stuff and am thinking of constructing and iron frame walled with wood panels and roofed with corrugated steel. I live in a tropical ish climate so water proofing and structural stability are major issues lots of typhoons . I'm also wondering if I can just extend the supply of an outside electrical socket that I've got to power the whole thing or do I need to take more extensive measures to safely provide electricity for this thing? If anyone has done anything like this or can point me to good reference materials or even plans, it would be very much appreciated Btw, I'm aiming for it to be about 500 square feet surface area.
Recommendations for a garden office supplier/builder? South East England
I need to put up a garden office, probably a log cabin type but am open to other types.Because of local restrictions designated area of outstanding natural beauty i need full planning permission for it and it has to be in keeping with a wooded forest environment. It needs to be at least 20'x12' 6m x 4m , has anyone any recommendations of suppliers builders of these types of buildings?Looking through all the sites and on ebay, theres all sorts of different wall thicknesses, floor trusses, roof construction etc does anyone know of a good info page i can find out more about the technicalities of this type of building?I've got some extremely heavy filing cabinets and other racking that need to go in there, plus it needs to be secure and insulated, along with electrics etc anyone got any pointers or tips that might help me with this?My budget is around 10k.Thanks all Jim
What indoor plants are best for garden office?
I have a garden office and would like to have some plants on the desk and shelves etc. I would only want to water a max of twice a week and the office will be mainly unheated, can anyone recommend suitable plants? Thank you.
What is a garden office? since when the garden office was built for the first time, and what is the purpose?
Is purpose build garden office really warm in winter?
I need a garden office during winter just outside London in my garden.Builders seems too costly for me and looking into those studios made of typically100mm SIP with 12.5 plasterboard covered with solid ceder outside. For flooring, underlay, damp proof, dbl grazing windows& doors, can have electric heaters too.Has anyone got one of those and warm and strong enough? All the companies have really nice galleries as if you can live in there but the truth is??
Large garden office, soil tendency to get waterlogged, how thick should a reinforced concrete base for it be?
I'm putting up a 8.3m x 3.6m garden office, its modular construction with insulated panels, fairly heavy and whats inside will be heavy full filing cabinets, bookcases etc .The garden has small streams going around it, and the ground has a tendency to get waterlogged, i think its a clay subsoil.Want to put it on a concrete raft base how thick should this be?I have a builder in mind who says he'll dig down a bit, put 100mm of scalpings laid to 100mm then whacker plated down and put 150mm 6 inches of concrete with heavy duty reinforcing, on top... would this be sufficient? He wants a fair bit more money to make it 200mm thick 2800 compared to 2300 how does this price sound? Its having a smooth floated top surface as the building has a galvanised steel bottom.Location is Dorking in Surrey, UK.All sensible comments appreciated ThanksJimaccess to the site is limited, its down a rough unmade track, and a bridge to the property which wont take much more than 2 tons. The building is going roughly 40m across the garden from the bridge.Theres a few trees here and there in the garden, but wont be any closer than 20 feet.
What's the best way to get a phone line to a garden office?
I have a garden office at end of 100 ft garden. Can I just run a normal phone extension lead, or should I get a special lead, similar to armoured cable used for the electric feed. Do BT offer such a service, I asked but she didnt seem to know what she was talking about l
