What do people think is the best way for the horse?..not the person who witness it.Thanks for your opinions so far. We do shoot our horses using a qualified man to do it. I asked this because many people are shocked and say it is barbaric. But I have witnessed shooting and injection, and while injection is " cleaner" and nicer for the person present it isn't as quick and clean for the horse. Our man is so good and so quick. He gives the horse or pony a treat and then does it so fast the horse knows nothing and drops before it has eaten the treat. It is upsetting we all cry like babies but the horse knew nothing. I never was sure until I had to hold horse for first time..now I am reassured it is the best way.
My shower is filled with horses and ponies! I also found a little garden gnome that talks to me! Yay!?

Feeding and pasturing horses and ponies together?
hi there,I have an older mare who up until this year was fed free Choice grass hay for the winter. I now have a 10 hand pony of unknown breeding I think that he is a pinto shetland who is taped at about 380lbs. We just bought him for a companion for the mare and also for the kids to learn on. I don't know a lot about ponies but have read that they can founder even on grass hay if left to feed. I currently separate them for feeds but neither of them finishes their hay and so it defeats the purpose of separating them. they don't get grain and so I am wondering how people keep horses and ponies together? I don't want to have to keep him in his own pen for the cold winter which has started already...grr. and they can both scratch for tidbits still. what is an average weight for such a pony and can they really founder on grass hay?do I need to muzzle him for most part of the day or what? I was thinking of trying the free choice thing and see if he is there all the time or tape him every month or so and if he is gaining then do the muzzle or pen thing? Also, a few of my bales have foxtail barley in it I discovered yesterday... there are conflicting reports on that too so????any help is welcomed.thanks

I own a quarter pony and two ponies,one of the ponies we just all share her,I love them all very much I'm not into the whole riding thing,I enjoy seeing them,caring for them and walking them around,she tells me I'm " scared" of owning a bigger horse or I need " help" to over come it..over come what?over come the fact I don't care to ride?...and I should sell both my ponies to buy a bigger horse cause they're " hay burners" ....the thing will be just sitting in a pasture and rode only twice a month or less.People don't get why I own such little things ha ha,my quarter pony I brought her weight back up and my pony I'm sorta retraining him cause she was abused..she was annoying me so bad that I said I'd call her back..I offered to her that if her little sister gets better at riding she could use my quarter pony for riding whenever she wanted..course she had something to back that up right away I wasn't offering to sell her to them.I told her my mare had a white fungus in her ear and she said this right away " Is could be a cancer " and she hasn't even seen it She'd be your typical annoying teen girl at your barn..who doesn't know crapAny one else get BS like this over owning ponies?I know they're fun sized
4-H horse and pony help?
Ok. In my county we have horse and pony club in 4 h. We have about 10 meetings and 5 other functions a year . In july we have horse show for the club members to compete in. Everything from keyhole to dressage. Well a couple of the families in the club never make their kids come to any of the required meetings or functions, but then they let theire kids show in july.I won my halter class and was up for grand champion. one of the kids who never showed up to anything took grand champion. and this year this kid hasnt come to anything and is likely to come back and take grand champion again. Heres my question sorry so long Do you think i should go to the fair board about setting a minimum on how many functions you must attend to be eligble to show in july or do you think i should talk to my leader about setting a mimimum? i felt bad for a new kid it was his 1st year and he got reserve all because this snot nose decided to come to the show after this 1st year member worked so hardIts only for 4 h horse and pony members. I really hated it seeing that poor kid not get grand because of some know it all who thinks he can just walk in there, take his honors, then leave. Its going to have to change. It would give more kids a chance and increase participation
