How much does it cost for dog training classes where you live?
I often see people on here claiming that they cannot afford to take their dog to training classes.I live in the UK, and I pay 7 for a 1 year family membership to the dog training club, plus 2 per lesson, one lesson per week lessons working towards the KC Good Citizen scheme. There was another class elsewhere in the city that was better for problem dogs, endorsed by apdt apdt.co.uk that was roughly the same price.Are training classes really expensive where you live? Are they out of the range of most people? Or do people just not realise how affordable training classes are? For those not familiar with British currency, there's a currency converter here x rates.com calculator.html Thanks to Rayven and Silver for your answers so far.Just to add, I'm not talking about specialist training, just basic commands sit, stay, heel housebreaking... etc for the average pet owner.

Bird dog training: Is "whoa" the same as "stay"?
Why teach the dog " whoa" ? isn't it like " stay" ? to me " whoa" sounds very similar to " no" , can " whoa" confuse the dog?from my understanding it means " stop, don't move or do anything unless I tell you" .ok let me rephrase the question. In bird dog training, why to trainers teach the dog " WHOA" ? Is it different from " stay" ?

DS: Why dog training classes rarely address behavior issues beyond puppy/beginning classes?
I was just thinking and pondering that all the dog training classes I've seen no longer address behavioral issues pass beginning. Or do yours? Is there a reason why most dog training places don't address correcting behavioral issues in classes pass beginning classes? Since behavioral issues will most likely also come up pass puppy months and or a 8 week beginning course, why wouldn't they also address them in those classes? It's weird to me, because I would think they would continue to. Given, intermediate and advance classes need a lot time to teach new cues proof old ones but I think behavioral issues should also be addressed. I don't know. Any opinions or experiences?

Can somebody recommend me a good dog training school or private trainer?
My dog is an Australian Shepherd and he is 2 years old. He is very aggressive towards strangers who come near the house or us. He barks, growls and jumps at them. He doesn't stop barking and trying to get at them unless he's in a different room. If they touch him too much, annoy him a lot and stand close, he may nip them. He nipped someone once . It has to be around Toronto, Ontario. I don't know which one is the best or who will be trustworthy. I heard of dogs like this being turned into family guard dog and not just barking and jumping at everybody they meet even our friends. Thanks.

Do you think both go hand in hand? As in, how you discipline your kids and how you train discipline your dogs are similar?Example..I am not against punishment and a good ol' butt whooping when needed with the kids. I'm actually FOR it...same for my dog. If I need to correct him with a prong chocke b c he's behaving like a little demon ... Takes off running and approaches the neighbor's property. They have electrical fencing for their rather LARGE mutt. Both dogs start barking, hackles up...whole nine yards. What would your dog do? approach the random dog and cause a fight bark and retreat TJ....I wasnt insinuating that the two methods are identical lol Just the way the situation is viewed.
