What are the basics for dog obedience training?
Indi is now 6 months old and she knows how to sit, stay, shake and lay down. I've realized that I should start doing basic obedience training with her but I'm not sure how to go about it. I want to teach her to walk beside me and to pay attention to me while doing so, without constantly focusing on my hand.. she sometimes jumps up. I want to enter into canine freestyle a little later, and am having trouble teaching her new tricks. She just does not pay attention for very long. I know she's a puppy, she just doesn't seem interested sometimes.So, how should I go about basic obedience training? Should I start it with her on a leash? Where would be best to do it?

He loves to turn over water bowls it's 110 degrees here , jump other dogs and cats. Goes to the bathroom inside the house and tears apart everything. Its been difficult trying to train my dog for the past few months and I find myself having less time to spend with her right now but that is only temporary. However, I would like to send her off to a dog school where she can spend a couple of weeks learning how to be obedient and great dog. I used to spend a great amount of time working diligent with her by reading books, watching the dog whisperer and other dog training videos and they only seemed to work a handful of times. Please let me know if you have any personal experience with sending your dog off to a training school in SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA and getting great results Thanks

I found a dog obedience class beginner that is 6 weeks long meets 1 hr a week and costs $150. This seems to be the average price. I want to know if others have been pleased with the outcome of their dog going through this?

Does anyone know of place that does private dog obedience training in Gainesville, TX?
I have a 6 month old puppy that I can't break of some very annoying habits, despite having tried many things. I'd like to try private lessons. If public group lessons are the only option, I could go for that. She needs socialization as well, but I think she would freak out too much at public lessons. This is the kind of dog that if she even sees an object that has another animals scent on it, she will choke herself on the leash , and squells and whines very loudly and endlessly to get to it. For example I've tried introducing her to someone. After an hour of being in the prescence of the other person, she calmed down a little but still broke into fits of squelling and whining shrilly, all because I wouldn't let her run over and bite, scratch, and jump all over the person. We only have one shelter, Noah's Ark, and I do not believe it offers lessons of any sort. Nor is there a Petco or Petsmart or anything of the sort within 50 minutes of here.Anyway, sorry for the long explantion. With all this said, does anyone know of a place or qualified person who offers private dog training in Gainesville? If not what group training is available? Also if you know the prices that would be helpful too. Thanks a bunch in advance

Rottweiler owners: did you have your dogs obedience trained?
I own two rotties that are 1 year old and I never bought to an obedience trainer. I really never had problems with them, they are very obedient and I let them sit stay laydown before eating, being pet or getting out doors. They walk well on leash too. They only get a it too excited near new people and other dogs but that's about it. I am asking becasue I went online and they say obedience training in rotties for at least 2 years is a must, Mine are doing great and are much more obedien than my friends dogs that go to classes. I do not work so they get plaenty of training at home.

Wiener Dog Obedience training Help!?
We just bought a wiener dog that was 5 months at the time. When we bought him the people said he was house trained and we assumed he really was because he came with papers and all the stuff he needed When we got him home, however, he didnt seem to understand " lets go outside" or " potty" ...so we thought he was just adjusting. 2 3 weeks go by with my boyfriend and I working with him and finally he started coming to the door when being called and going outside. Now he has started peeing inside when we tell him it is time to go outside WHAT SHOULD I DO????
