Best dog behaviorist in Phoenix?
Hey all, I have a 6 month old female German Shepherd that I took in at a very young age. It was abandoned and I decided to care for it as my own. She is a very happy dog and she is healthy however she isn't without her own problems. Although she is not aggressive she does tend to softly grasp your forearm if you pet her. I wouldn't even call it a bite or latching on because it seems as though she is doing it to communicate, but it isn't a comfortable feeling either. She also recognizes what is mine and what is hers but when it suits her she will invade your property such as sofa's and kitchen counters. The last problem she has is jumping and general excitement. I cannot have friends or family over unless I lock her up because she goes berserk in a happy way when people come over and just wears them down by constantly jumping. I have tried almost every technique short of an electric collar to correct these behaviors but to no avail. Does anyone know of any good behaviorist? I love my dog too much to get rid of her but I cannot be a prisoner in my own house either. Money isn't an issue as I would gladly spend any amount for her training. Thanks

Alot of questions about being a dog trainer/dog behaviorist. ALOT?
Hi, well, im looking into becoming a dog behaviorist dog trainer. its something ive always wanted to do, but ive been doing massive amounts of research, and i am now POSITIVE that this is what i want to do. im sixteen right now. ive done so much research, and im so sure this is what i want to do. but there are some things im still a bit unsure about.the first thing is, where can i go to get hands on experience? im planning on volunteering at an animal shelter, but i want to do more. are there seminars i can go to? i got 120 bucks for my birthday, and i would like to invest in classes if possible? what else can i do to get hands on experience?and im having trouble with a couple things... how would i advertise? should i take up a job for training at pets mart, or something like that? should i post fliers? if someone could help me out with that part, i would REALLY appreciate it. thats one thing im quite confused about haha.and at what age would be a good time to start? i still have alot of research and learning to do, i know. im in no way even near ready. im just not quite sure at what age would be a good time to start.another thing. i would like to find some trainers i could possibly work with, but im un sure as to where to find them? and how to ask. it would be great if someone could give me some advice. im not an especially social person, but im working really hard to over come my kind of anti social side. i just dont know where to look for trainers who i can work with.i would like to work with aggressive dogs mostly, so i was wondering if there is somewhere that teaches you how to deal with aggressive dogs specifically?i would really like some help figuring out where to find some trainers i can work with.perhaps i should look into volunteering at a pittbull rescue or something like that?ive been working with a friends dog who was chicken aggressive. hes a black lab mix, and all muscle. he got out, and killed several chickens. so ive been working with him for a couple weeks, and i can get him to walk past chickens, even let him walk up to them now and sniff them without being aggressive. this dog has had no training. and he always pulls on the owners leash. the owners have no control over him. and he listens perfectly to me. one time i called another dog that they have, and it wouldnt come. so he went running and grabbed it by the collar, and dragged her over to me. i was amazed.so i think im doing pretty good so faranyways, i know thats alot to cover, but i would appreciate your help so much. really. it means alot. thank you so much for taking the time out to read and reply. cheersAndrew

Looking for a dog behaviorist in northern Michigan?
I am looking for a behaviorist for my jack russell terrier who is a trouble dog. And I can't seem to find one that is less than 40 miles from where I live Gaylord . The only two I found is about 32 miles and 40 miles from where I live. Help before I go crazy like a cow with mad cow disease kidding .I have read more books on jack russells and training dogs than I ever read in my life. I have trained him for over 9 months he is a year old and he is still a problem dog. I don't want to get rid of him because my local shelter won't take him because JRTs are unadoptable and there is no rescue group where I live. And he means too much to me to let him go. I even tryed what I see on Cesar Milans tv programs and still having problems. I am being very constient on his training.I have done everything that ceaser has said, and like I said I am constinent on his training. And I am home 24 7 and I have a schedule for him and his buddys the other pets I own so they all get equal amount of attention and love. And he has been getting more attention than the others so I can train him better but nothing works including time out.

What qualifies a dog behaviorist or dog trainer?
What do you think qualifies someone to call themselves a dog behaviorist or dog trainer? If you were looking for a behaviorist or trainer for your dog, what qualifications would you expect them to have?Just looking at the APDT website provided, and found this statement " Membership in the APDT does not necessarily ensure all members employ similar training methods, nor does the Association set standards of skill or competence " emphasis mine . If no standard for skill or competence is set, how useful is this organization?apdt.com about who.aspx

Any good dog behaviorists in Phoenix, or advice, please.?
I have a 1 year old, 60 pound beagle ridge back pit bull and god knows what else mix. I have been through 4 trainers already and I even follow through with her at home, but seriously, this dog is ADD. I don't know how much I can take of her anymore. Here is a list of her problems 1 She won't listen to you unless you have a treat, then she is all ears Thanks to the previous trainers who swear by using treats as bribes 2 She jumps and nips drawls blood at my guests when they come over, even if she knows them.3 If the doorbell rings, she goes nuts and doesn't shut up when I tell her the " magic" word that the last trainer said would shut her up and being part beagle doesn't make it anymore pleasant.4 She constantly picks on my 14 year old dachshund and plays way too rough with him5 She is food and possession aggressive. For example Yesterday a friend was over and I had an antacid pill still in the blister pack sitting on the counter about to take it, I turned around to get water and Nola took the pill and ran off with it under my bed. When I went to go get her and fish it out, she began snarling and drooling obsessively right when I entered the room and " drop it" didn't work so I drug her out, sat on her and held open her mouth while my friend fished out the pill6 She jumps up on the counters as stated above. And this she learned while staying a week at my parent's. My mom likes to treat her like a toddler and says that she is " helping her cook" when she puts her paws on the counter.7 She is fearful aggressive in general. Anything or anyone that frightens her other dogs, strange people, children, bikes, motorcycles, etc. she will growl and snarl at while walking, and I am afraid she could seriously hurt someone.8 She will constantly howl while outside at people, at a bird, at a rock, at a moving tree, you name it, she will howl at it and I have gotten MANY complaint letters in my mailbox. While she may sound like the WORST dog, she is good in many ways too 1 She is WONDERFUL at walking, walks right by my side never in front.2 She will go into her crate when you tell her to3 She is very affectionate and protective of me4 She goes running with me twice a day and walking twice a day and is very good and obedient at both5 She doesn't bolt out the door when it is open, she will wait until you say it's OK to go out or invite her back in.I seriously just need help fixing her bad behavior. I'm just upset and frustrated that I have spent hundreds of dollars on trainers who come to the house and I work with her religiously to keep up the good behavior and it all gets thrown back in my face, and this dog is only a year old. I either need experts on here to tell my what to do about these problems, or I need names of wonderful dog behaviorists in the Phoenix, AZ area, not the treat driven trainers that OBVIOUSLY don't work for her. She is driving me insane and I'm seriously thinking about giving her to my parents cause she stresses me out, but I know they will just make her worse by treating her like a toddler. Thank you so much.

How much does it cost to hire a dog behaviourist?
I recently adopted a dog from a rescue. I was told she hadn't been socialized very well and so she often barked at other dogs, but on the whole, she was a good dog.well... she is s a great dog in the house, and when she met my dogsat the shelter she loved them, so they all get on like a house on fire. but, when we take her out for walks she is absiolutly TERRIBLE with other dogs, she doesn't just bark, she really aggressivly goes for them, she bares her teeth, snarls, barks and pulls really badly to get to the other dog. So, I'm going to call a dog behaviorist and get some help, but how much do they cost on average? I live in Scotland, UK Thanks for the help XxxxThanks for the tips, I have actully tried all of hese things as I am an experienced dog owner but she is not responding, the actal quetion was " how much is a dog behaviourist" not " what do i do" Thanks
