How do I train my very clingy German Shepherd/collie mix?
I have a German Shepherd collie mix who is about a year old. He's extremely clingy. Whenever he's around me, he wants to lean his back against my legs and he sometimes barks if I don't pet him. This makes training difficult, to say the least, because he doesn't want to focus on commands. To complicate matters, he doesn't seem to care about treats he'll often ignore them . I've tried using petting as a reward for training, but, recently, he seems to just ignore my commands and jump on me instead. I know about turning away to discourage jumping behavior .So, does anyone have any ideas on how to get him to focus on his training?

Does my border collie have normal border collie characteristics?
i just bought a " purebred" border collie from a breeder about a month ago. he is a tri colored short hair. he looked like a border until recently, when he started maturing. he has REALLY big paws. too big for a supossed medium size, very thick joints, and what looks to me like a box head. are these normal characteristics? if anyone could help that would be great. no he didnt come with papers, just a health record. i know it is unreliable without papers just curious to as what others have to say about his descriptionok so here goes the details again with added stuffi just bought a " purebred" border collie from a breeder about a month ago. he is a tri colored short hair. he looked like a border until recently, when he started maturing. he has REALLY big paws. too big for a supossed medium size, very thick joints, and what looks to me like a box head. are these normal characteristics? if anyone could help that would be great. no he didnt come with papers, just a health record. i know it is unreliable without papers just curious to as what others have to say about his descriptionhe is around 4 months and im sure its difficult to tell then but my mom keep joking hes a mutt, not that it matters to me and i just wanted some different opinions. so here goes my attempt at a picture. its off my phone, and he kept moving so yeah its what i got. oh and with the box head, well its not actually as defined like in a boxer but its sorta pointed at the top alotrileybordercollie.weebly.com

Is it common for Border collie pups to be born with a stumpy tail ?
We bought a puppy with a stumpy tail , around 4" long, is this common ? it was not docked. It could have been crossed with An Australia Sheppard with its grand parents, seen Parents and they were supposed to be BC's although the Dad had a short tail too.

Can tricolour dogs (specifically border collies) be created this way?
Someone unreliable source was telling me he bred his reddish tan border collie to a regular old black and white border collie, and most of the puppies were tricolour. He said the black and tan mixed... I think either both or one of his dogs carried the tricolour gene... Is what he said even possible?

Is the border collie the right breed for me?
Okay i was wondering if a border collie would be a good dog for me to get? alright i live in a very rural area of southern indiana in the foot hills on 250 acres. I have 2 italian greyhounds and a golden retriever mix. My mom works at home so there would be some one there most of the time. we have 3 large lakes on my property. also if you know me you will know that before i get a dog i always do at least 5 months of research in both books and online also i have more dog training and trick books than any child or adult i know I do not live by any roads and do not have any neighbors so the dog would be able to run free without being restrained as do my other 3 dogs. i feed high quality origen dog food. I am willing to take this dog to the vet and dog classes i have taken all of my previous dogs to dog classes . i know that this may sound bad and by no means i love my golden mix but i have found that even though she is smart she just isn't the kind of dog that is as high energy and as ready to learn as i would like that is why i want the kind of dog that is really food motivated and ready to learn and play whenever i am when i am home i have lots of time to spend with him besides when i go to school but then while i am gone my mom can play with him. keep in mind that although i am a kid i am highly intelligent and have had hands on dog training classes i used to have a border collie Shepherd mix but i had to get rid of her because when i got her we had to move unexpectedly and get rid of her and then i lived in the city and now i know that is not the place for a bc. i will play with her a lot and take it for walks around my property. also this dog will not be pent up in a crate all day like most dogs, this dog will be outdoors with my other dogs most of the day but she will be allowed inside whenever she wants and will be allowed to get fresh food and water. but she will be let in at night to keep her away from the wolves and cougars . another thing is that this dog will have a lot of human interaction and will not be expected to just entertain itself outside for it will have other dogs to play with my iggy's love to run and of course when i have the time i will play with her also i promise that i will get this dog from a good breeder and not a pet store or a backyard breeder because i am strongly against that i need to get a dog that is friendly to both people and dogs and that will be very playful and willing to learn and i would love to have a dog that will actually catch the frisbees and balls and doesn't just retrieve them haha thank you and please give me your advice and thinking because i value your opinion.

Border collie vs. English Shepherd?
What is the difference, I can't find any... emz, I was asking about differences... dog on a rope, englishshepherd.org it's an older breed, that isn't recognized by most kennel clubs, just like most breeds that are used solely for working instead of being bothered by show. It's a rather rare breed, I had never heard of it either until researching rare breeds today. It's actually thought to be the basis breed for the Border Collie, so it's been around for a while. It's just not popular because there are other similar dogs now that are more abundant, I suppose.

Can our 7 year old Border Collie get pregnant?
We are getting a Border Collie from this older couple, and she is a super dog She is fully vetted but not spayed. We asked when her last heat was we are moving and our new neighbors have a very big intacted great dane male The owners said she has not does not have them anymore. I asked if she was spayed already and they said no. My question is can she get preg. if she is no longer having heats? And is her age at 7 normal to no longer have heats? They didn't seem bothered at all by it but I really don't want her to get hurt or preg. Anyone have any idea's if this is normal.I don't want her to get preg. at all I was asking so I know if I should just take her to the vet and get her spayed and not worry or if her not having heat's means she can not get preg. so I don't need to shell out $250.00 right off the bat.

Border Collie Advice!?
Okay i was wondering if a border collie would be a good dog for me to get? alright i live in a very rural area of southern indiana in the foot hills on a 250 acre farm with chickens and ducks but no livestock. I have 2 italian greyhounds and a golden retriever mix. DS: My Border Collie is mothering our foster kittens?
Yuupp. She's very protective of the kittens we're fostering. I didn't think she'd be this good with them, but she's really taking them under her wing and it's just adorable, she's acting just like they're her own pups.We obviously don't leave her unsupervised with them, since she's a BC and they have a tendancy to nip.Is it normal for dogs to do this? I've heard stories, but never actually seen it.MB Yeah, I'm really surprised, too Because she herds my two grown cats non stop, but now she's mothering the kittens. It's really weird. They've been rolling around, crashing into her, hiding behind her then springing out at each other, playing with her tail, rubbing on her legs and face, and she tolerates it. If one of my older cats did that to her she'd snap at 'em, I'm pretty surprised. It's adorable < 3 Hahah.Lmfao, Pink, that's too cute Skipper Hey Awww, cute. I saw a photo album of your dogs once you posted them on another question . I think I already told you that much, but your dogs are soo cute.Skipper Speaking of cell phones, I need to go put mine on the charger. Thanks for the reminder hahahah.Omg, Skipper. I spent about 3 weeks looking for mine. Turns out it was in the garage, in a pile of my MOMS laundry, in front of the washer.I nearly died.Hahah and thank you, Nelly is definately one of the prettiest dogs I've owned.

Border Collie Question...Please answer!?
Why is it so impossible to find a sable border collie? I know how much responsibility comes with a border collie as I have two. I have one red tri, one red merle, and now I was looking for a sable. Could someone point me to a breeder or possibly a shelter where I can find one? I've been looking all over the place.
